Reddit user Plante_babe recently posted a video showing off their real-life Squeakoid Gyroid from Animal Crossing: New Horizons created using a 3D printer, dog toy, and paint. The Reddit user explained the entire process alongside their post so that other Animal Crossing fans could customize their own real-life Gyroid after stating they lack the patience or time to manufacture the items professionally. Plante_babe found the 3D printable shocked expression Gyroid design on MyMiniFactory and the unpainted small figure’s arms are outstretched to the side, with five wisps of hair poking out of the top of its head.

In order for the Squeakoid to be squeezable, Plante_babe used Flexible TPU 3D printing filament for the MyMiniFactory design. After printing, excess TPU is removed as the Gyroid is hollowed out to properly produce the squeaky sound that the Squeakoid specifically makes. To hollow the design out, Plante_babe has used a box cutter to slice a 2-inch by 3-inch hole into the Gyroid and left a small air hole in the figure so that it can effectively produce noise. While Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Gyroid collection has tons of different noises to choose from, Plante_babe uses a squeaker from a cloth dog toy.

Animal Crossing Gyroids come in many shapes, sizes, and colors, and to replicate one of the New Horizons Gyroids as another Animal Crossing fan has in the past, Plante_babe has used blue, green, orange, purple, and yellow acrylic paint. In addition to a base coat of acrylic paint, Plante_babe has also used acrylic super heavy gloss gel to ensure the paint stays on and is more flexible as the squishy toy is squeezed. The Reddit user has warned other Animal Crossing fans looking to recreate their favorite Gyroids that the length of time spent painting is around four hours, notably more than other steps in the process.

Although Plante_babe has confirmed that they’re unable to 3D print these real-life Gyroids for pleading Animal Crossing fans, one fan with a printer of their own may take up the challenge with Plante_babe’s instructions. The Reddit user has stated that sharing each step of the process has been part of an effort in encouraging others to make their own designs, but they lament not making a DIY Animal Crossing video for the project. Plante_babe has confirmed that they continue to optimize the real-life Gyroid as they attempt to help others create more Gyroids.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
