Bringing the Animal Crossing: New Horizons to version 1.4.1, the update focuses on the now infamous Star Fragment trees that have quickly spread online. Starting out as a save file hack, Star Fragment trees are bell trees with a hacked item replacing the bell bag item, instead of planting a money tree, players could plant a tree that contained Star Fragments and grew them on the branches. After the hack, players were able to visit each others towns and dig up the trees to bring home. The new update replaces all existing Star Fragment trees with regular trees.

In addition to addressing the hack, the new update fixes some minor, but annoying glitches. One such glitch was the disappearance of shiny soil spots after a player returns home from the newly added dream feature. Now, if not dug up, those the shiny spots should remain until the player decides to dig them up themselves.
Another issue addressed was a minor but common glitch where the player was unable to hit a rock when trying. Instead, the player would end up swinging in the air. Although the update is not mandatory to play offline, the game will have to update to version 1.4.1 in order to play online in any capacity, especially if players want to show off a newly-customized firework show to friends.
