The otter Pascal was introduced to Animal Crossing: New Horizons just a few days ago, and with the ability to swim and dive, players are tasked with finding scallops for their new red friend. After finding their first scallop, Pascal should appear—though some players noted he sometimes does not appear after the first find and may take a couple more tries for him to pop up. Keep in mind players should also have enough empty space in their inventory for a gift from Pascal, or else he may not appear at all.

Because players are able to trade their scallops for rare items such as pearls, mermaid furniture DIYs, and mermaid clothing, it begs the question of whether or not it’s worth stockpiling and storing scallops. Players can, but there really isn’t a point. Pascal will only show up after the first scallop find of the day and will not trade again until the next day. So don’t worry about spending hours finding as many of Pascal’s favorite snacks as possible. But luckily, scallops are available year-round, so players can focus on finding all of the sea creatures available during July instead.

In an unexpected addition to the Wave 1 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players should see a major change to the way NPC spawns works, which is great news for those who are having difficulty tracking down Redd to add works of art to their museums. The change is quite significant and players should see more consistency in visits from any of the New Horizons special visitors.

The Wave 2 Summer Update will be coming to players in August, although not much else has been revealed at this time. Some fans are expecting a new DIY set. Or, if New Horizons follows suit from past games, players can expect fireworks, which would occur every Saturday in August at 7pm in Wild World. Perhaps a festival with special furniture awaits, but players will have to wait for August to find out.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
