Combining items to create very specific effects is a time-honored tradition in video games, whether or not the game is designed to allow this combination. Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans have previously used item combinations to craft tributes to other franchises, but this combination is simply a nod to the spooky season.

Redditor lakenfo posted a screenshot of their home, which appears to be decorated in an antique, almost rustic dark wood look. The building features unusual furniture choices such as a barrel, a plastic flamingo, a wind chime, and a huge skeleton with a dark hat and glowing eyes. In the post description, lakenfo explains that they created this very specific look for the skeleton by placing the Iron Wall Lamp item right behind it. The lamp’s shade became a hat for the skeleton and the light shone through the empty eye sockets, making them appear to glow.
When worn by the skeleton, the Iron Wall Lamp resembles a conical sedge hat, a traditional accessory found throughout Asia. It’s used primarily as protection from sun and rain and is famously worn by Mortal Kombat’s Raiden, a thunder god who is heavily inspired by East Asian mythology. A similar item known as the Bamboo Hat can be crafted in Animal Crossing, though it’s uncertain if putting the Bamboo Hat on a skeleton would yield a similar result - assuming that particular item combination is possible.
As of writing, it appears that other fans are interested in the item combination. One user immediately noted the resemblance to Mortal Kombat’s Raiden, while another claimed that the Iron Wall Lamp more closely resembled a witch hat. A third user stated it reminded them of the Swedish TV show Vintergatan. However, almost as many users commented on another aspect of the screenshot: due to the positioning of lakenfo’s character in front of a lit Tiki Torch item, it looks as though their hair is on fire. It seems that many users found that image more distracting than the fancy skeleton, though the fan’s creation is certainly memorable in its own right.
