Yet, though the game has been out for well over a week now, players are still finding interesting new features throughout New Horizons. Interestingly, one of those secrets involve the dreaded wasp and how to get away from them with relative ease.

Finding Wasps on the Island

One of the first things new players to New Horizons will do on their island is start gathering the basic tools to earn bells. Catching fish and bugs is also the main way to get Blathers and his museum on the island so players can begin donating their finds. The excess bugs and fish can be sold to Timmy and Tommy in the Resident Services tent for some easy bells. One of the earliest bugs that players are going to find on their islands are wasps.

Players can find wasps by shaking trees, which is necessary for finding tree branches to use for crafting and random items like bells or furniture. Unfortunately, wasps don’t just sit back and let players catch them. Wasps will chase players indefinitely until they enter a building, catch them, or they catch players and sting them. While wasps stings leave a visual mark on the player character, the stings can be fixed with medicine that can be bought or crafted.

Dealing with Wasps on the Island

There are a few ways that players can go about dealing with wasps they find on the island. The first and most beneficial method to taking care of wasps is catching them with a net. In New Horizons, players can actually shake trees with tools in their hands. This makes it infinitely easier to catch wasps once they fall out of trees. Skilled players can make a slight turn to catch them immediately, or run a ways away into a clearing to give more space and wait for the wasps to arrive.

Any extra bugs can be sold to Flick or Timmy and Tommy for some extra cash. Another way to deal with wasps is to simply enter the nearest building. Entering a building will make the active wasps completely disappear. Additionally, players have recently found out that the party popper item that can be bought at Nook’s Cranny can be used to scare away wasps. while maybe not being the most practical use for the item, it’s a neat little touch.

For better or worse, wasps aren’t bugs that disappear throughout the year. So players scrambling to catch bugs before March ends won’t have to worry about them going away. Wasps can be scary bugs to face early on, especially for players new to the series. However, with a little practice players can catch or escape from wasps with ease. If not, then there’s always medicine that can fix those nasty stings.
