The big new addition to Animal Crossing: New Horizons with Summer Update - Wave 1 is the ability to swim. After purchasing a wet suit, either with bells from Nook’s Cranny or using Nook Miles, New Horizons players can start swimming in the ocean surrounding their island. Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can dive underwater as well, where they can find sea creatures that can then be donated to Blathers’ museum or sold for cash.

Summer Update - Wave 1 also adds new visitor encounters for Animal Crossing: New Horizons players to experience. The most notable is the addition of Pascal, an otter who purchases scallops from players in exchange for Mermaid-themed DIY recipes. However, there is also a new Gulliver encounter added to New Horizons as well, which sees the shipwrecked bird with some brand new clothes and a new task for players to complete.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons update also adds new items that players can purchase with Nook Miles, giving Nook Miles more purpose than they had previously. Players will also find some brand new summer items in the shops, but they’ll need to act fast if they want them because they will only be available for a limited time.

The addition of swimming, diving, and sea creatures should greatly expand what Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can do in the game. It adds a completely new category to the Critterpedia, meaning players that have somehow already caught all of the bugs and fish finally have something new to do occupy their time.

Looking ahead, the next big update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons will come in August, entitled Summer Update - Wave 2. What it will entail exactly remains to be seen, but fans should find out within the next few weeks.

Here are the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 1.3 patch notes.
