Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released during the pandemic and features the usual mechanics from the franchise’s previous games with the one difference being it takes place on an island. Players can gather and sell fruit and crops, donate to the museum, and upgrade stores and their house with the goal of making it an island paradise that draws possible land buyers to Tom Nook’s landlord business. Along with the level-ups, players can also access customization tools to make their island more personal to their tastes. This can mean changing a path to fit the tropical aesthetic design or creating an outfit to match a character within or outside the game. They can be shared with other players through design codes and added to with wearables already established in the game.

Reddit user Jones2173 has certainly found a somewhat disturbing but equally creative way to have their very own K.K. Slider costume in the game just in time for Halloween. The player used the available white body paint in the game, which is unlocked during the Halloween event, and combined it with a pure white dress. Then, the player equipped the in-game accessory called “dog nose” which looks exactly like K.K. Slider’s nose along with some white stockings. The final touches to create K.K. Slider’s famous eyebrows were added through the use of custom design and the in-game guitar case. All designs and items were combined to create a convincing yet horrifying K.K. Slider costume.

This is just one impressive example of a fan of Animal Crossing: New Horizons using custom designs and in-game items to create something neat. For instance, players have previously recreated scenes from movies or other games, such as from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s trailer or Hocus Pocus 2, to further express their love for other media through one of their favorite games. Then there are some fans who use in-game items as inspiration for creative projects in the real world.

Though the updates have ended with the game, many players have managed to find ways to keep it interesting with innovation and resourcefulness. Design and item placement along with customization offer a variety of different ways to play around with the look of an island. Others have also taken advantage of the controversial hacking technique to keep the game fresh and posted their interesting results online. With all of these options, it’ll be interesting to see what Animal Crossing: New Horizons players come up with during the winter season.
