In a similar vein, the community surrounding New Horizons remains as active as ever. Fans are constantly voicing their opinions about the game, and a valid question has taken over fan’s minds on social media: where are the Nintendo amiibo villagers?

For those who may be unaware, Animal Crossing: New Leaf was the most recent entry before New Horizons was released. New Leaf was released for the Nintendo 3DS back in June of 2013 in North America. However, New Leaf saw a very substantial update three years later titled Welcome Amiibo that could be downloaded as DLC or as a complete physical package. The Welcome Amiibo update added brand new characters like Harvey and his RVs, but also added an option that allowed players to scan amiibo figures to get special Nintendo-themed villagers.

The Welcome Amiibo update was received very well by fans of the series, with many players falling in love with some of the amiibo-specific villagers. Much like how Raymond is the most popular villager among many vocal New Horizons players on social media, the Wolf Link amiibo villager was a fan favorite of the Welcome Amiibo update. Now, fans are wondering why they can’t summon Nintendo amiibo themed villagers to their campsite in New Horizons.

This question is not necessarily new, as many players and industry figures alike were wondering how Nintendo would handle amiibo figures going into New Horizons. Nintendo eventually confirmed that Animal Crossing amiibo figures and cards would be compatible with New Horizons, as players could get their favorite villagers in New Horizons using amiibo. Unfortunately, the other various Nintendo-themed amiibos currently have no use when scanned in New Horizons, leaving fans to wonder if amiibo villagers will ever make a return.

That said, New Horizons apparently has plenty of updates in store in the future, as the game now receives seasonal updates through downloadable content. This means that there very well may be hope left for amiibo villagers to make a return in New Horizons. Until then, fans can still make and download custom Legend of Zelda outfits and patterns in preparation for the day that Wolf Link finally makes his return to village life.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
