Fittingly sporting a jack-o-lantern head, this eerie villager arrives from 5:00 PM on October 31st, until 1:00 AM the following day (both hemispheres). When Jack arrives, players will be able to get their hands on some exclusive spooky-themed items. However, many will want to take this a step further — turning their entire island into a creepy Halloween showcase crawling with scary themes and villagers. Luckily, there are plenty of odd, and some downright creepy, villagers that players can recruit to inhabit their island in order to complete the Halloween horror getup.
10 Jitters
Halloween can be known for producing some jitters — and this is greatly personified by this beaked villager with the same name. Sure, the soccer garb of this avian jock may be a far cry from the eerie motifs of Halloween. And beyond his demeanor, the name “Jitters” actually seems to reference Brazilian culture (a major distributor of jitter-invoking coffee), from which the Latin-American bird hails.
Yet, the fittingly-named Jitters features a bold look of nervousness and fright with his wide eyes and tense body language. The facial expression of Jitters is sure to help establish the mood for players looking for a scary island vibe. He’ll bring a dynamic feel too, as it’ll seem like he’s reacting in an alarmed fashion to the spooky sights and sounds around him.
9 Jambette
While there are more than a few villagers boasting a more Halloween-centric theme, there are plenty of options that are just plain eerie to behold. Despite falling under the category of normal, the fashion-loving frog’s appearance diverges quite a bit from the label.

The protruding eyes and large, human-like lips of this female frog yield an off-kilter appearance which, in a dark Halloween setting, can look all the more unsettling. Jambette’s house, with its carved ceramic tiles that make up its walls, also seems to resemble that of an eerie ancient temple rather than comfortable lodgings.
8 Stitches
Stitches is a lazy cub villager, which, on the one hand, resembles a rather cute, colorful Teddy bear. This is further emphasized by Stitches’ house, with looks like a child’s playroom. Yet, the peculiar stitchings that make up his eyes present a dead or zombified vibe.
So while there are few villagers themed after monsters, zombies, or other things that go bump in the night—this cuddly bear can slot in as an undead creature. And by gaining Friendship Points, players can opt to change Stitches’ clothes to something a bit darker or zombie-centric to make this theme even more apparent.
7 Kiki
Kiki the female feline can invoke ominous, eerie feelings despite her friendly smile, cute name, and cozy, elegant house interior. And it’s easy to understand why, as her appearance resembles that of an all-black cat. These dark animals don’t just adhere to the Halloween imagery, but are widely viewed as bringing bad luck to those who come upon them.

While the cat bears the normal type in New Horizons, her bright, wide-eyed glare invokes a feeling that’s anything but. And these glowing eyes look all the eerier when Kiki is seen roaming around one’s island in the dead of night.
6 Kidd
In much the same way that cats and bats personify Halloween themes, the same can be said when it comes to goats, who are often equated with devilish imagery. One need only refer to The Witch’s Black Philip as a prime example. The smug-type Kidd’s protruding sharp horns—bright yellow and orange striped—add to his fiery, hellish look.
And while the stylish interior of Kidd’s home looks benign, his house exterior complements a dark Halloween vibe, with its rustic look and dark purple rooftop.
5 Lucky
Players fond of Halloween themes won’t be able to populate their island with real, mummified villagers staggering about. They can, however, opt for the next best thing with this lazy dog villager. As is clear from his catch phrase, “rrr-owch,” the bandages on the ironically-named dog are meant to represent the body cast of an injured pup.
Still, there’s much to appreciate when it comes to Lucky’s Halloween themes. Not only does his bandaged body — with one glowing eye peeking out — resemble a spooky mummy, but his house is also thematically fitting. The exterior features a grey and black color scheme, while the interior is rife with death and graveyard motifs.
4 Ribbot
Ribbot provides a nice contrast for islands populated with colorful animals, with his mechanical look and the bright orbs that make up his eyes. With a bolted solid-steel body and hypnotic glare, this jock villager strikes an imposing, intimidating, and lifeless look. Ribbot has a personality to match, as he’s a bodybuilder who is fiercly competitive almost to a fault.

Fittingly, the robotic frog’s habitat takes on a technical, mechanical theme in New Horizons. The dark, steel nature of his home’s exterior also meshes well with the cold, eerie vibe of a Halloween island.
3 Pietro
As horror films like Stephen King’s It as well as the Batman Villain Joker have illustrated, clowns can be quite creepy, with their harsh makeup, distorted faces, and glaring eyes. This clownish sheep known as Pietro, who bears the smug type, certainly fits the bill.
Beneath the kid-friendly, colorful jester outfit, Pietro presents an unsettling look—with his massive smile, ghost-white skin, and wide eyes that stare into one’s soul. The bright, cloudy carnival decor of his house interior feels more like stumbling into a strange dream than a home.
2 Cherry
There are few villagers that scream “Halloween” more than Cherry—with her demonic red color scheme, unsettling eyes, and a black spiderweb shirt. The sisterly-type dog boasts a tough personality and is quite the night owl; roaming the island late in the evening.
Both the exterior and inner workings of Cherry’s house complement her style and help round out a spooky Halloween island. The interior has a rather dark, Gothic feel, with a red rose bed and a floor adorned with skull images. The exterior also matches this look, featuring black paneling and blood-red roofing.
1 Coco
The peculiar Coco has long been an Animal Crossing curiosity. And it’s easy to see why, with the rather eerie lore surrounding her and her dead, expressionless face. While technically classified as a rabbit, this seemingly normal villager is one of the few in the series that is technically not an animal, further adding to her mystery.
Coco’s background is also ominous. Her face is inspired by the vaccant look given to players who neglected to save their game in the original Animal Crossing when visiting a player’s village, serving as a sort of warning. The death motif goes further—as Coco’s stereo can be heard playing the dark ambient K.K. Dirge. Her presence is thus a perfect exclamation point to any spooky Halloween island.
