Another character revealed to be returning in the New Horizons trailer is Redd, but who exactly is this fox and what will he offer players?

Who is Redd?
Redd has been around for as long as Animal Crossing has existed. Originally appearing in the series’ very first entry, Redd is a friendly - but shady - fox who has peddled a variety of wares over the years. His most recent appearance in Animal Crossing: New Leaf saw him primarily as an art vendor, and it looks like New Horizons will return to that.
According to the latest trailer, Redd will show up on ‘Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler’, a ship that will dock on players’ islands on occasion. There, players can peruse a variety of art pieces that they can either donate to the museum or add to their homes as decoration. However, it’s not just as easy as buying up everything Redd has to offer and taking it to the Blathers following the upcoming New Horizons museum expansion.
What’s Redd’s Deal?
Redd, since his introduction, has been known for selling black market wares. This impacted New Leaf, and it appears that it will have the same impact on New Horizons. Essentially, players must use a keen eye when purchasing Redd’s art pieces, as a great number of them are actually bootlegs and knock-offs.
If New Horizons follows New Leaf’s lead, then the only way to tell for sure whether something is a legitimate piece of art or not is to scrutinize it carefully. Players need to study the difference between the art offered by Redd and the real-life version. If there’s a difference between the in-game piece and real-life piece, then the art is a counterfeit and can’t be offered to Blathers. If they’re identical, then players can donate the art. However, players previously could still add fake art to their homes if they chose to. That will likely be the case this time around, as well.
Redd will start making his appearance after players download the new update releasing on April 23rd. Until then, it might be a good time to brush up on fine art.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
