Star Trek: The Next Generation features a number of the most memorable characters in the franchise, including several that have gone on to significantly affect pop culture for the last several decades. With this in mind, it may be easy to see why a group of Animal Crossing players would want to run around the beach in full Star Fleet uniform.

Redditor gamingdawn shared a screenshot that appears to feature four Animal Crossing player characters hanging out on the beach. One with very pale skin and short black hair appears to be dressed as Lieutenant Commander Data, while a second character with a bald head and a cute smile resembles Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The other two characters seem to be dressed as Deanna Troi, the ship’s counselor, and Dr. Beverly Crusher. Troi is shown apparently taking a nap under a tree while Dr. Crusher sits alertly beside a picnic basket, presumably keeping an eye out for injuries.
All four characters are shown wearing outfits inspired by the iconic jumpsuits of Star Trek. For Data and Picard, this means yellow and red sweaters striped with black over black pants. Troi and Dr. Crusher, however, are shown wearing long blue dresses with a stripe of black around the collar, despite their characters in the original show often wearing jumpsuits as well. All four characters are shown with the famous Starfleet Insignia on their collars.
As of writing, it appears that other fans are impressed by this virtual cosplay. However, a number of users questioned why Troi and Dr. Crusher’s dresses appear to show the drawn-on contours of a figure the Animal Crossing player model does not possess. According to gamingdawn, this is a reference to the outfits in Star Trek: The Next Generation being unnecessarily tight, especially Troi’s. Another user shared a reworked version of the iconic Star Trek narration stating that their mission was to explore strange new islands and go where no resident representative had gone before.
