Most recently, mountain goats have been added to the mountainous biomes, and they serve the purpose of ramming players off the top of the cliffs. There’s also been the adorable axolotl, found feasting on tropical fish in the lush caves. There could, however, be so many more animals added to Minecraft - with purposes and specific drops, too! Here is a list of potential critters that we would like to see.

10 Seals

There is something missing from the multiple biomes’ coastlines and islands in Minecraft. Deserts are filled with traps and hostile mobs, but the sandy swathes of beaches haven’t got a lot populating them.

Something that would fit right in here is seals. Spending their time on land and in the sea, these sausage-shaped friends would hunt for fish and communicate with each other of their own accord. They would drop leather if slain and would be docile. They could even follow players around if they hold a tropical fish.

9 Bears

So, there are pandas in the bamboo forests. There are polar bears waiting to pounce on the ice. Why isn’t there another bear in between these two extremes?

The proposal is a grizzly or brown bear that would appear either in forest or dark forest biomes. They could be tamed by being fed salmon (raw, not cooked), and would drop leather and bones if killed. Like wolves, they would turn angry if hit and could be aggravated quite easily, but if players sneaked up to them, they could be approached. Why would you want a tamed bear? Why the heck not!

8 Penguins

Speaking of icy climates, some snowy scenery can be a little… empty. So why not penguins? The only birds in Minecraft currently are the parrots and chickens, there is plenty of room for a new addition.

What function would these flightless fowl serve? Well, found at snowy beaches and other coastlines, they would dive for fish regularly. Like foxes, they would hold the fish items in their mouth and would drop them if slain. They could even work like dolphins - give them a bucket of fish, and they could lead to treasure, ore blocks, or something else equally valuable.

7 Reptiles Or Lizards

There are literally no lizard type animals in Minecraft. Not an alligator, croc, or any form of smaller cold-blooded reptiles. This seems like a massive oversight.

The Mesa (also known as Badlands) biomes specifically are sparse and a little boring, so could benefit from a new addition. The proposal: small lizards that can bury into blocks. They would be diurnal, basking in the sun during the day, and hiding away in the night. In terms of drops, they could drop clay, mud or other ground-related items due to them digging.

6 Tigers

Quite often, the Jungle and Bamboo Forest biomes will interlock on the Overworld maps, and will share creatures between them. Parrots, pandas and ocelots are to be found here, though the bamboo areas only have the docile pandas.

Therefore, would it not be a good idea to add something else to these areas, a threat perhaps? Why not a tiger? Sometimes ruler of the jungle and ready to pounce at any moment. They could be like polar bears - passive to a point but if cubs are around, be warned as they will be immediately hostile.

5 Mosquitoes

The swamp biomes are relatively danger-free, aside from the occasional slime. So why not get something else in there to shake things up and add a little spice for players?

How about a cloud of insects - likely mosquitoes - that can swoop and attack players as they try to wander around. They could maybe form swarms, too, and follow individuals while in the biome. Campfires, buildings or torches could be used to deter them and keep them away, or possibly a new potion type.

4 Whales

The ocean is a huge place. And yet, it feels a little empty. Dolphins, squid, and fish don’t quite fill the space, however, here is a fun idea: what about big whales?

Floating in the ocean, and expelling air bubbles that players could use to breathe would be incredibly helpful when deep diving in the middle of the sea. If someone chose to slay this majestic creature, there could be a curse added to them, along with drops of leather, fish, and possibly a rarer item.

3 Elephants

Animals in Minecraft so far are all a bit… small. The polar bears are barely the height of players, as are horses. Something needs to be done to rectify this. So why not an elephant or two?

They could be spotted roaming the savanna and grassy biomes and would drop tusk items and leather. Tusks could be used for decoration or crafting, too. Elephants would be seen in groups, but would be largely passive unless attacked (a bit like bee mobs). Baby elephants could eagerly run up to players to investigate, too.

2 Otters

Some more water animals need to be added to the many different types of wet areas: sure, there’s fish in the sea and some squid, but there’s not a lot else.

Otters would be a perfect addition to Taiga biomes, and to populate shallower areas like lakes, ponds and rivers. They could carry nautilus shells, but would not give them up unless slain, putting players in a moral dilemma in order to collect them. Otters would sleep on the riverbanks and during the day would frolic in the water.

1 Birds Of Prey

Something that could really amp up the more tree-filled biomes is some birds of prey. Hawks, eagles or owls could be used as inspiration for this. Think of it like a day-time Phantom. Really, they would not be too bothered with players, more the chickens and rabbits in the world.

These birds could nest in mountains, adding something to the sparse areas: eggs could be collected - perhaps a new kind - and the nests picked up and moved around.
