Most of the following weapons are simply too oversized to be efficiently brandished, and, realistically speaking, the wielder is more likely to harm themselves than their target. Weaponry that is simply physically impossible outside of an anime setting (such as Fate’s Sword of Rupture, Ea) have been disregarded in this case, as redundant arguments that hold no bearing in an authentic application.
9 Ichigo Kurosaki’s Tensa Zangetsu – Bleach
It’s safe to say that the majority of the Zanpakutō of Bleach deserves a spot on this list, as these Shinigami have a ludicrous set of weapons at their disposal, but only the iconic ones will do. While in its original state, Ichigo’s katana may be rather lengthy but it could realistically cause some significant damage. However, once that Bankai is released, it’s game over!
Disregarding the fact that this shinigami sword is imbued with a powerful spirit, the massive size of this Zanpakutō is enough to render it virtually unwieldable. Enormous, even by Shinigami standards, just raising Tensa Zangetsu above one’s head seems like an impossible task, never mind successfully hitting a target. If the aim is true, however, it is unlikely any victim would walk away from a blow like that.
8 Dracule Mihawk’s Yoru – One Piece
Considered to be one of the strongest swords introduced in One Piece, Yoru resembles a traditional German Kriegsmesser, however, with a more exaggerated hilt. These curved blades generally stand at around 1.5m tall and weigh 200kg on average, and are normally reserved only for professional swordsmen.

While a typical Kriegsmesser is evidently functional, Mihawk’s version has an elongated crossguard that would undoubtedly affect its maneuverability, adding more weight and potentially injuring its wielder during combat. The Yoru wins points on realistic capabilities but loses the battle of usefulness (unless a highly-trained swordsman is willing to choreograph a fitting fighting sequence to work around the sword’s strange proportions).
7 Momochi Zabuza’s Kubikiribōchō – Naruto
Each of Naruto’s Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist has a potent weapon containing magical attributes, with Zabuza’s Executioner’s Blade possessing particularly unique regenerative qualities. By using the iron drawn from the blood shed by its victims, the Kubikiribōchō can regenerate and reform, essentially making it indestructible.
While this aspect is scientifically implausible, the main issue with this weapon’s versatility is impeded by its gargantuan size. This elaborate broadsword is as tall as the average man (and nearly as wide), with two conveniently placed cut-outs to finish off Kubikiribōchō’s iconic look. The detachable handle may make for easier transportation, but does nothing to lighten the excessive load.
6 Voltron’s Blazing Sword – Beast King Go-Lion’s Adaptations
The effectiveness of the Blazing Sword would not be up for debate in a world where Transformers, Jaegers, and the likes are no longer fiction, but until engineering can reach that level, fans will simply have to face the facts. Without Voltron or any of his mechanical and gargantuan counterparts, there is little that a solitary human could accomplish with the Blazing Sword.
The importance of symbiosis between Paladin and Lion is undeniable, whether it be in the Defender of the Universe orLegendary Defender universe. However, a measly mortal would be incapable of summoning this epic weapon without a few giant robots in tow, as it takes the combined effort of five Lion Ships to invoke enough power to brandish the almighty Blazing Sword.
5 Sheere’s Cutter Of Creation: Extase – Akame Ga Kill!
Extreme horticultural experts could possibly benefit from these exaggerated scissors, but the average person would have to resort to cosplaying to get much use out of Sheere’s weapon of choice. With the ability to slice through anything, one should definitely not run with the Cutter of Creation in hand; and its sturdy structure allows the Extase to double as a shield too.

Despite its appearance, the Extase is meant to be operated as a sword (and not a pair of clippers) and if its real-life replica were light enough, there is likely no reason why it wouldn’t work. However, alongside a standard sword, the Extase seems bulky and not particularly aerodynamic, and appears to possess limited flexibility (aspects typical of an effective blade).
4 Kisame Hoshigaki’s Samehada – Naruto
This ninja’s weapon is actually sentient; a living, breathing entity that feeds off the chakra of its victims to sustain itself with the added ability to choose its own partner-in-crime. Disregarding these mythical aspects, even if a proportionately accurate inanimate replica of Samehada is created with the intent for combat, its wielder would have a rather tough time because it’s about as bulky as Kubikiribōchō.
If one were strong enough to brandish this sword, they would still have a difficult time not getting injured in the process, because Samehada’s scale-like blades are inconveniently angled towards the hilt of the sword. As a protective measure, most swordsmen opt to wrap the entire weapon in bandages, for fear of being spiked (which Samehada has been known to do on purpose).
3 Light Yagami’s Book – Death Note
Would the Death Note be useful in reality? Why certainly, if one only wishes to record information, without the expectation of anyone dropping dead as a direct consequence. Arguably the most powerful weapon in anime history, the effects of the Death Note cannot be stopped once its magic comes into play, essentially turning its author into a God among men.

Theoretically, fans could walk in Light’s footsteps and create a list of people who deserve to cease their existence and then hand that document over to a hitman. However, this scenario is a terrible idea, as it is likely to conclude in bankruptcy and a criminal record (and hopefully a guilty conscience too).
2 Renji Abarai’s Soo Zabimaru – Bleach
The mechanics of Renji’s Zanpakutō requires a stretch of the imagination, as it includes an arrangement of segmented blades that interlock, but only when necessary. In its Bankai form, Soo Zabimaru can extend to create a serpentine weapon with whip-like qualities, reaching almost immeasurable lengths.
When extended, Zabimaru has limited tensile strength and therefore has to be wielded in an entirely different manner. With the individual blades of the legitimate version would still potentially cut and wound the victim, a considerable amount of training would have to happen before any type of accuracy could be accomplished. Likewise, the average bullwhip is around 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12 in) whereas Zabimaru can reach closer to 100cm in length, undoubtedly affecting its overall effectiveness and increasing its tangle-ability.
1 Panther Lily’s Bustermarm Sword – Fairy Tale
Nobody can discuss oversized swords without bringing Fairy Tale’s Bustermarm into the equation! Measuring around four times larger than its wielder, this magical blade is quite capable of slicing through an entire planet and is certainly nothing to be trifled with! Much like Lily’s Musica Sword, the Bustermarm can alter its size depending on the situation, undoubtedly making the traveling experience much more bearable!
Supporting so much weight during battle would be a miraculous feat, but simply lifting the Bustermarm does not automatically guarantee success. Even if made with the lightest material possible, the sheer surface area of this blade would make controlling each strike quite troublesome, and throw its wielder completely off balance in the process.
